V.G. Kannan

Mr. V.G. Kannan has been the Chief Executive of Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) which acts as a representative of over 240 banks operating in India and plays a collaborative role between banks, regulators and government in improving customer service with a focus on digital banking in the last two years.  Prior to this Mr Kannan served as the Managing Director of State Bank of India. He held a Board level position in the Bank supervising the businesses of SBI’s five Associates Banks and nine Indian subsidiaries. The subsidiaries were engaged in diverse financial activities such as Asset Management, Life Insurance, General Insurance, Custodial Services, Primary Dealership, Investment Banking, Broking, Credit Cards, Pension Funds and Factoring services.

Mr. Kannan, did his Masters in Business Administration from Chennai University. Prior to being appointed as Managing Director of SBI, Mr. Kannan was the MD&CEO of SBI Capital Markets Limited (SBICAP) the largest Indian Investment Banking Company in India. He has held number of important positions in his professional career with SBI. Mr. Kannan has extensive experience in the Loan Assets of the Bank. He was in charge of Mid-Corporate clientele of State Bank not only as CGM of Mid-Corporate, but also as General Manager of Mid-Corporate Regional Office Delhi. In his role as CGM(MCG) he took various initiatives for Business Development, Policy, Oversight, Control and strategy of the Mid Corporate Group of the Bank – with Loan Assets of approximately Rs.1,50,000 crores.
